This collection consists of personal and professional papers of Richard R. Dixon of New Orleans, La. Included are correspondence, photographs, promotional material, financial documents, Carnival memorabilia and a 1961 public relations broadside designed to reassure visitors that racial tensions did not interfere with Carnival, Louisiana Superdome dedication papers, election ephemera, audiorecordings on cassette, Dixon's business card as Managing Director of Municipal Auditorium, and other printed items.

Richard Remy Dixon (1911-1991) was a journalist and city official in New Orleans, La. He was a lifelong resident of Algiers, a part of New Orleans on the west bank of the Mississippi River, and he wrote for the West side news, and the Algiers herald. Victor Hugo Schiro (1904-1992) entered New Orleans politics in 1949 when he won a seat on the city's Commission Council. In 1961, he became mayor of New Orleans when he was named to complete deLesseps S. Morrison's unexpired term. Schiro was elected in 1962 and re-elected in 1966, remaining mayor until 1970.
